Abstract

Edgar A. Holt was a Lincoln Memorial University Alumni who was a professor, chairman, and dean. He served in World War II and Korean Conflict in the Air Force. This collection includes correspondences, service records, publications, and photographs.

Biographical / Historical

Edgar A. Holt graduated from Caliborne County High School, Tazewell, TN, and from Lincoln Memorial University (BA in History and English), Harrogate, Tennessee. He then graduated from State University of Iowa with MA Degree in history and poli. sci. from Ohio State University with PhD degree in history and political science.

He was the professor of history and goverment, chairman of Dept. of History & Gov. at Southern Illinoise University (SIU), University of Omaha(UoO), and University of Kansas City. He was also the dean of College of Arts and Sciences at SIU and UoO.

Holt entered military service in 1942, graduating from Officer Training School, AAF, in 1951 and commisioned as First Lieutenant Army Air Froces; later promoted in 1962 through grades to Lt Colonel, USAF. Grad. from Central Instructor School, AAF, Air Command and Staff School, Air University; took courses in Air War College/University by extension. Severed with Fifth Air Force Service Command and Far East Air Service Command In Southwest and Western Pacific during World War II and Fifth Air Force in Korea duirng Korean Conflict. Served in the Pentagon and with the US Air Force Academy. Wrote the annual histories of the Air Force Academy for years 1954-1958.

He recieved Bronze Star Medal, 2 Commendation Ribbons, and various theatre ribbons with battle stars.

He also helped prepare a Charter of Goverment for Jackson County, MO; Served at times as member of the Omaha Family Welfare Association; Severed as Director of Claiborne County Chamber of Commerce & President of the Claiborne County Kiwanis Club.

Holt is the author of the book Party Politics in Ohio, 1840-1850 as well as articles in Mississippi Valley Historical Review, Missouri Historical Review, [Palimpsest], Western Business Review, and local newspapers.
