Biographical / Historical

"In 1895, with a group of associates Dr. Avery organized the Lincoln Memorial University. He devoted much of his time to the building up of the institution, serving as its president in 1902 and 1903. He was a director of the university from 1896 to 1931, and was an honorary member of the board at his death."
